You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isa. 26:3). “Some trust in chariots and some in horses (or money, control, smarts, self), but we trust in the name of the LORD our God” (Ps. 20:7).

Lord Jesus, it’s time to shift our focus from the immediacy of our hurts, fears, and disappointments, to the permanency of your redemption, grace, and love. It’s one thing to be concerned, but another to obsess about our “stuff.” Vexing without sleeping isn’t a helpful substitute for walking by faith and trusting without seeing.

So, with fists relaxed and palms extended, we release to you the things over which we have zero control. Some of these things are so old they’ve gathered dust and rust. Some are as current as this moment. Some haunt us from the future. We know we’ll try to grab some of this “stuff” back; but we’ll seek to let go of it again quicker than we usually do. Help us, Jesus.

You are the Alpha and the Omega. You also have gamma, zeta, theta, sigma, etc., covered too. When the cares and anxieties of our hearts multiply, your consolations bring us joy (Ps. 94:19). In you and by you, we have peace. Without you, we are spiritual orphans failing miserably at self-parenting—rudder-less, sail-less boats adrift on the ocean of fear, hurt, and “What if’s?”

Wherever we are and no matter the time of day, we choose to believe the Gospel over trying to be our own savior—or anybody else’s. Jesus, we choose trusting you over resenting others, medicating foolishly, “running aimlessly,” and “boxing the air.” (1 Cor. 9:26)  So Very Amen
