On a recent flight I sat next to two young women returning from the same conference. They carried bags of books they received for free and a few others they bought for further study. I asked why they took time out of their busy work schedules to fly halfway across the country to hear a weekend of heavy teaching. They said they appreciated the meaty, biblically saturated, God-glorifying messages that encouraged them to love God and share his love with their neighbors.

These women reflect the trend discussed in this video by Nancy Guthrie and Kathleen Nielson, TGC’s director of women’s initiatives. Teaching around the world, these women have observed a growing passion for God’s Word, especially in the younger generation. Women are looking for substantive study and training with the gospel of Jesus Christ at the center.

Nancy Guthrie teaches the Bible at her home church, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, in Franklin, Tennessee, as well as at conferences around the country and internationally, including through her Biblical Theology Workshop for Women. She is the author of numerous books and the host of the Help Me Teach the Bible podcast from The Gospel Coalition. She and her husband founded Respite Retreats for couples who have faced the death of a child, and they’re cohosts of the GriefShare video series.

Kathleen Nielson is an author and speaker who loves working with women in studying the Scriptures. She has taught literature (PhD, Vanderbilt University), directed women’s Bible studies in local churches, and served as director of The Gospel Coalition’s women’s initiatives from 2010 to 2017. She and her husband, Niel, make their home partly in Wheaton, Illinois, and partly in Jakarta, Indonesia, where Niel helps lead a network of Christian schools and universities. They have three sons, three daughters-in-law, and nine grandchildren.
