  1. "lee n. field" says:

    I’ve heard four of them.

There are also plenty of sermon illustration stories I’ve heard multiple times from multiple sources.

  2. reformedSteve says:

hahaha, I’ve heard most of them.

  3. Daryl Little says:

I’ve heard all of those, most since I was a kid…over and over…and worse.

Since I started preaching from time to time, I’m constantly reminded of Dan Phillips’ (Team Pyro) admonition to never give a quote or anecdote without sourcing it first.

That little bit of advice has saved me from spreading the silliness more than once.

Some of the commenters on that site should do that as well. There’s a few ‘urban myth’s” in the comment section that really are true.

  4. Tony Romano says:

I was kind of hoping to see the rapture on that list.

    1. Justin Taylor says:

It was originally there but it suddenly disappeared!

      1. Literal coffee-choking moment on that one. Very well done. :)

        1. Richard Agnew says:

          Keep calm! Carry on! :o)

    2. Gary says:

      Well played sir!

  5. Dean P says:

Tony, if I could push the like button for your comment I would.

  6. Wow, what a great list. I have heard most of them, and had no idea that they were false!

  7. Jay Sanders says:

I was glad to see that the story about the guy who worked on the railroad and killed his son who was caught in some gears in order to save tons of people on the train didn’t make the list. I use that one every week. Solid gold!

    1. Bar says:

      Saints preserve us.

  8. Jeffrey Brannen says:

    @Jay

There is a movie about that story. I can’t remember the title. Foreign language. About a father’s sacrifice to save other people. Very moving film.
