Quite amusing, except that he is wrong on one point, at least. It is correct to say “I feel bad.” Anyone who says “I feel badly” is inadvertently disparaging his sense of touch. Grammar girl backs me up on this point: http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/bad-versus-badly.aspx.

  2. Imma share that on my blog, too.

Thanks for the post… pretty much sums up the life of a first grade teacher trying to teach reading and spelling. “No it may sound that way, but it’s spelled this way… except for these three words…”

Lisa is dead on. “I feel bad.” is referring to a state or condition, and thus uses the adjective. “I feel badly.” is referring to the action of feeling something, perhaps with one’s appendages, and is thus an action, and needs the adverb. For the same reasons “I feel good” and “I feel well” are distinguished. But than again, wadda I no, I’m jus an englush teacher.
