Our Father, who art in heaven
Father, it’s good to remember this day where you dwell. Heaven is your throne, and the earth is your footstool. You reign over all. You are mighty, sovereign, and just. And you are loving, kind, and good. You are our gracious Father, and we can come to you with all our earthly requests.

Hallowed be thy name
Whatever happens today, may your name be declared holy. May you be glorified and honored. May your people honor you with their hearts, words, and actions this day whether they speak in the public sphere or in the privacy of their own homes.

Thy kingdom come
Overwhelm our hearts with a greater desire for the advancement of your kingdom. Help us to not place our trust in earthly governments or political powers, but to set our hope fully on the grace that will be brought to us at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
May your will be done in whatever way is best for the coming of your kingdom and the glory of your name. We admit our limited and finite perspective. We humbly submit our will to your divine and perfect plan. We know that your reign extends over whomever is elected today and take comfort in this truth: “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will” (Prov. 21:1).

Give us this day our daily bread
Hear the cries of those who suffer in need today. We ask that you give food, shelter, clothing and physical protection. Thank you for these daily provisions. We know that ultimately they flow from your goodness, not our own efforts or diligence.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Forgive us when our pride causes us to look down on others; when we act as though we are better than someone else because of the views we hold. Forgive us when we love our political positions more than people. Help us to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us. By your mercy, may we forgive those who slander your church and take delight in their sin.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Help us to hate what is evil and cling to what is good. Keep us from the sins we can so easily see in others. Free us from pride, hatred, injustice, false testimony, sexual immorality, and unjust gain. Protect us from the lies of the world, the flesh, and the Devil. May we walk in a manner worthy of the gospel today, seeking to please you in everything we say and do.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Whomever is elected today will reign for a short season . . . mere moments in light of eternity. We rejoice in your eternal reign. May we walk with hope today, knowing that from you and through you and to you are all things. To you be the glory forever.

Amen. Come Lord Jesus.
