I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”  Rom. 1:15-17

Dear Lord Jesus, even as Paul was eager to preach the gospel to believers in Rome, so I’m eager to preach it to my heart today. There was a time when I thought the gospel was only for nonbelievers—simply the doorway for beginning a relationship with you. I now realize the gospel is just as much for believers as it is for nonbelievers; because from beginning to end, our salvation is entirely dependent upon the grace, truth, and power of the gospel.

Indeed, there’s nothing more than the gospel, there is just more of the gospel. Jesus, take me further in and farther up into the inexhaustible riches of your grace.

Your cry from the cross, “It is finished” is the only reason we can now cry, “Abba, Father”. As our substitute, you lived a life of perfect obedience in our place, and your death exhausted the judgment we deserve. This is my theology; increasingly make it my doxology, Jesus. You don’t just give us life; you are our life.

As this day begins, and continues, don’t let me forget that all of my sins have already been forgiven and I’m now robed in the gift of your perfect righteousness. God has declared me to be righteous in his sight. He cannot love me more than he does today, and he’ll never love me less.

In fact, because of your work for me, Jesus, God now loves me just as much as he loves you, for he’s hidden my life in yours. I’ll pray it again—this is my theology, Jesus, make it my doxology. Stoke the embers of the gospel in my heart. May joy propel me into a day of living and loving to God’s glory.

I want to live today as a beloved child of God, no longer a slave to penalty and power of sin; no longer an orphan looking for a family or meaning; no longer an idolater trusting in wannabe saviors; no longer a legalist looking to save myself; no longer a pragmatist looking for formulas to make my life work.  Keep pressing the gospel into my heart, Lord Jesus. So very Amen I pray, in your priceless and peerless name.
