Knowing When It’s Time for Personal Retreat with Jesus

My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.” Song of Songs 2:10

Lord Jesus, fortunately I’m not totally “toast,” yet; but it’s definitely time for me to spend some unrushed, uncluttered time away with you. My emotional tiredness tells me so. My wandering thoughts tell me so. My fidgety body language tells me so. My quick reactions tell me so. My critical attitude tells me so. But above every indicator, you tell me so.

What a Lord, what a Savior, what a Bridegroom… you say to me, “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.” I am ready; I am very ready.

Jesus, that you desire rich, intimate time with me… well, I believe it, but continue to dispel my unbelief. It’s hard to live as a Mary in a Martha world (Luke 10:38-42). It’s become much easier to do things for you, than to spend totally focused time with you—not just quality, but quantity of time. That’s a confession of sin, not a boast or an excuse.

Jesus, the only beauty I have is what you’ve given me—the robe of your righteousness, my hiddenness in you, and your life in me… but what a magnificent supply this is. Thank you, thank you, thank you… for your kindness and generosity.

Since my calendar tells the real story, and my schedule is the measure of my sincerity, Jesus—as silly as this sounds, I will make time for you—you, the one who loves me as no other; the one who is the Lord of all time and space; the one whom to know, is eternal life; the one who is making all things new, including me. I will sit down today and write you into my upcoming days and weeks.

Speak to me afresh in your Word and creation; in the stillness and the aloneness; in the tears and the laughter; in my brokenness and your beauty. So very Amen I pray, in your great and grace-full name.
