Hallelujah! Jesus Has Defeated the Devil, Evil, and Darkness

The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 1 John 3:8 (NIV)

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devilHeb. 2:14 (NIV)

He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. Col. 2:15 (ESV)

Lord Jesus, we’re so grateful eternal life includes a world completely devoid of all sin, evil, and brokenness. Though it will require your second coming, nonetheless, we’re grateful for that Day and long for it more than ever.

The eternal Day of no more bombings or kidnappings; no more human trafficking or even bad traffic; no more greed or need; harming or hurting, meanness or madness. No more disease or uneasiness about anything; no more racism or racing around trying to make a name for ourselves. No more orphans, immigrants, or refugees—for we will live in your forever welcome, as your beloved family. Every person, place and thing will be redeemed and restored, radiant and robust. Hasten the Day, Lord.

Lord Jesus, thank you for destroying the devil’s work by your cross. His crushed head and broken dominion are sweetness to our souls, peace in our storms, and power for our mission. By your shame, you shamed evil, and by your defeat you destroyed darkness. Terror is now terrified of you, and though the devil is filled with fury, he knows his time is short (Rev. 12:12).

So we won’t cower or take cover, shrink back or give into fear. You’ve won the war, and you’ll win the remaining battles as well. As full as the world is with evil and devils, it will be filled thousands of times over with your glory and beauty.

Lord Jesus, we praise, bless, and adore you, for so great a salvation and so trustworthy a hope. For your glory, we will live this day in light of that Day. So very Amen we pray, in your exalted and majestic name.
