“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” Mark 10:51 NIV

Lord Jesus, your encounter with this blind man is both refreshing and convicting. His blindness was obvious, but his desire for healing not quite as obvious. It’s not that you present yourself as an on-demand healer, but you are an ever-present Savior—pursuing us and giving us what we need, even when it’s other or more than we want.

Living with an awareness of our need is a good thing. Living oblivious to our need is a dangerous thing. Bringing our every need to you is a gospel thing.

As I personalize your question this morning, “What do you want me to do for you?”—these things come to heart and mind.

Jesus, like this blind man, I also want my sight. I want to see you more clearly, and much more of you. I want to fix my gaze on you—the Author and Perfecter of my faith. For the more you capture my heart’s gaze, the more I see everything else from your perspective.

  • The more I see people as fellow image bearers of God to understand and love, not a means or obstacle to some personal end
  • The more I see time as a gift to be stewarded, not as a luxury to be squandered
  • The more I see suffering as a calling to enter, not a terror to be dreaded
  • The more I see money as the currency of mercy and grace, not as a security in which to trust
  • The more I see the church as your beloved Bride, not as my disappointing club
  • The more I see history as the advancing of your Kingdom, not as the dissolution of my country, culture, and comfort zone
  • The more I see myself, not as a failure or success, but as a much loved child, in whom the Father delights
  • The more I see the gospel, and the more of the gospel I see, and I am peaceful, joyful, and hope-full.

Indeed, Jesus, I want to see. Open the eyes of my heart, wide. So very Amen I pray, in your tender and triumphant name.
