The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Ps. 19:1-3

Heavenly Father, as I begin this Thursday morning, delightfully, it’s in the low 60’s, and I’m comfortably planted in a big leather chair, nestled in the lakefront woods of northern Wisconsin. It’s been a great week for tuning my heart to hear what you have to say through the things you have made, in this beautiful corner of your creation. Keep slowing down my heart to beat at the pace of grace. When we live too fast, we miss too much.

How can anyone with any degree of sensate awareness ponder creation and not worship you, the Creator of all things? Father, you created the cry of the loon and the flight of the eagle, the first light of each sunrise and the warm glow of every sunset. You made Walleye taste like heaven and hand paint the dots on every Pike.

And yesterday… what a delight it was to be in a nature park, with parakeets landing on my head and deer eating from my hand. It made me long for the Day of wolves and lambs napping together, trees clapping and mountains dancing—the Day when all things will be right again.

Not content just to be a magnificent Creator, you also choose to be a great and gracious Redeemer. Father, thank you for sending Jesus to us and giving him for us. The gospel is true, and über-good. You have blessed beyond all measure, asking, and imagining.

Father, as this summer continues and leans toward the fall, may we hear you speaking louder than ever to us—in the things you have made and in the One you have given.  So very Amen we pray, in Jesus mighty and merciful name.
