Steadfast-Hearts in a Vulnerable “Viral” Season

“The righteous will never be shaken… They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure; they will have no fear. Psalm 112:6-8

Lord Jesus, like a 10-week-old golden retriever ready for breakfast; like a hungry Brown Trout rising for a purple haze fly; like an October elk bugling for companionship… we crave the heart King David describes in this Psalm.

By the truth of the Gospel, and the power of the Holy Spirit, grant us this kind of “spiritual-cardiology”: Steadfast-hearts in a circumstance-challenged season. A Good News calm carrying us through our bad news world.  Fear-diminishing trust that we are yours, that you are in control and at work in all things for our good.

If it’s the “righteous” who won’t be shaken, we don’t look to ourselves, but to you, Lord Jesus. For our Father has graciously declared you to be our “righteousness, holiness, and redemption” (1Cor. 1:30). Hallelujah, the Gospel is true! Otherwise, we are hapless, hopeless, and holiness-less.

Now make us…

Less easily triggered by the “what if’s” and “Oh no’s”

More peaceful when life remains scary and “viral”

Less “wobbly” when shaky things are going on

More flexible when control evades our grasp

More worship-full than worry-seized

Lord Jesus, supersize our confidence that you are doing all things well, even when you don’t do things our way, or on our timetable. So very Amen we pray, in your wonderful and merciful name.
