A few years ago, I posted this brief clip from an episode of ER called “Atonement.” The clip features a man dying of cancer who is seeking atonement for past sins. His confrontation with a liberal chaplain demonstrates the impotency of liberalism to deal with the reality of guilt:

“I need answers! I want a real chaplain who believes in a real God and a real hell!”

Wow, visions of CPE just flashed through my head. What a convicting clip…hard to believe that was on TV. Thank you.

  2. Denny Burk says:

    Great clip! Thanks for posting!

  3. That is a very powerful clip. I remember watching it when it first did the rounds on the blogosphere – thanks for the timely reposting.

  4. I too remember seeing this when it aired. It was considerably telling of the yearning in every human soul; viz., to find forgiveness.

I cannot recommend highly enough Chris Brauns’s book Unpacking Forgiveness (see my review here). I propose a synthesis between Brauns’s work and N. T. Wright’s (here). Also, don’t miss Mirasolov Volf’s work Free of Charge (see my reviews here and here).

  5. JESUS IS INVISIBLE. Enough said. TALK DIRECTLY TO HIM, OR DON’T. Anyone who wants to talk around this, or “pray” to His mom, or a statue, or a building, or a poop (oh, I mean pope, THE False Prophet of Revelation), -the pseudo-Christians He would spew from His mouth- AWAKEN OR BE DAMNED (no more CHOICE in just a few years now, when He appears, FIERCELY, with His Angelic Warriors, IN OUR LIFETIMES). Atheists, be damned: your kind will be EXTINCT, after His return.
ONCE MADE AWARE (as I have made you here), NOW RESPONSIBLE: TALK DIRECTLY TO JESUS, THE COMING MESSIAH AND KING (DIRECTLY, RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU), OR DON’T. Anything less is SATANIC. SAT NAM!

I saw this clip on Denny Burk’s site – this is soooooooo profound! Lord, help us to seek TRUTH!

  7. Bart says:

I saw a scared man who had done terrible things in his life. He knew his time was up and didn’t want to make peace with what he did. He didn’t want atonement, or the understanding of another person who cared for him. He wanted someone to tell him that everything was going to be OK and he wasn’t going to suffer after he was dead. He just wanted to be told what to think. His would be deathbed conversion is just more shallow selfishness.

(no more CHOICE in just a few years now, when He appears, FIERCELY, with His Angelic Warriors, IN OUR LIFETIMES)

You know people have been saying that for the last 2000 years or so right? Saying it one more time doesn’t make it any more true now than when it was first said all those years ago by a crazy preacher.
