This week, Brandon Smith and I launched the Word Matters podcast, in which we discuss controversial and contested passages of Scripture. You can subscribe to the podcast here: iTunes | Android | RSS
Kindle Deal: Show Them Jesus: Teaching the Gospel to Kids by Jack Klumpenhower. $1.99.
Seven of the best articles I came across this week:
1. Mike Ovey – The Art of Imperious Ignorance. “The Bible is unclear, it is said, and so we must be content not to know. We must be ignorant. In that sense I think we are observing an argumentative move that is perhaps increasingly common.”
2. Emmett Rensin in Vox – The Smug Style in American Liberalism. Lengthy but worthwhile reading from an unexpected source.
3. Trillia Newbell – Complementarians in the Black Experience. Trillia is always worth reading. I appreciate her counsel about stereotyping, gender, and race.
4. BBC reports on Norway’s Barnevernet, the Bodnariu family, and the growing controversy surrounding overreach by child protection services.
5. Tom Schreiner reviews the important new book, Paul and the Gift, by John Barclay.
6. Rod Dreher – Chesterton and the Benedict Option. Rod makes the case for Chesterton being a proto-Benedict Option thinker. Not convinced, but the essay he quotes from here is superb.
7. Scott Sauls – Thoughts on the Rise and Fall of Pastors. Important, sobering words from Scott here.
