I will be away from the blog, Twitter, and Facebook for the next few days. One of the ways I get refreshed by spending time with family is by turning off the phone for awhile.
Kindle Deal: Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan (abridged and updated). $0.99.
Seven of the best articles I came across this week:
1. Jessica Contrera in The Washington Post – 13, Right Now: What It’s Like to Grow Up in the Age of Likes, Lols, and Longing. A profile of a 13-year-old navigating the “Screen Age.”
2. Ryan Reeves continues his deeper dive into my top 5 picks for most influential theologians. This week, he profiles Augustine and why he is so important.
3. The New Yorker – “The Metamorphosis: What Is It Like to Be An Animal?” A review of books about men who live as goats, badgers, and foxes in an attempt to escape the human condition.
4. Gloria Furman – The Remedy for Our Helicopter Parenting. “What I need to address first, then, isn’t the rules and cultural norms of mothering where I live. I need to have a renewed vision of who rules our family.”
5. Chris Martin – Majority of American Christians Do Not Find Bible Reading and Church Attendance Essential. Good analysis of recent Pew data.
6. Ross Douthat – Facebook’s Subtle Empire. Even if you don’t particularly care how Facebook treats conservative news sources, you should still want its power constantly checked, critiqued and watched — for the sake not just of its users’ politics, but their very selves and souls.
7. Jen Pollock Michel – There’s Never Enough Time. Thoughts on the limits of time management.
