Podcasts

In this week’s episode of the Word Matters podcast, Brandon and I discuss the question “Who Were the Nephilim?” from Genesis 6:1-4.  You can subscribe to the podcast here: iTunes | Android | RSS

I also was a guest on Nancy Guthrie’s Help Me Teach the Bible podcast to talk about gospel-centered teaching.

Publication

One more thing… a talk I gave last year at the C. S. Lewis Institute in Atlanta (“Richard Dawkins, Lady Gaga, and Amazon.com: Why Understanding These Rival Stories Is Important for Our Present Time”) has been made into a booklet as part of their Broadcast Talks series. The PDF is available here.

Kindle Deal: G. K. Chesterton’s Manalive (so far, it’s my favorite fictional work from Chesterton) is free on Kindle.

Seven of the best articles I came across this week:

1. Self-Taught Artist Revitalizes Historical Photos Into Stunning MasterpiecesI love digital colorization when it’s done well, in photographs, movies, television shows, etc.

2. James K. A. Smith and David Naugle – The Enduring Significance of Augustine of Hippo. Smith and Naugle reflect on restlessness and Augustine’s timeless voice.

3. George Guthrie – Augustine’s Angst: When One of the Church’s Greatest Theologians Got Bible Translation WrongSpeaking of Augustine, here’s an interesting take on one of his translation choices.

4. Mary Jo Sharp – Why the “Final Apologetic” Still Matters. This is one reason I love Mary Jo’s apologetics work. She understands the importance of embodied, faithful love.

5. Lore Ferguson – Why Hillbilly Elegy Hits Close to Home. J. D. Vance’s book on disadvantaged whites has taken the country by storm. Lore reflects on why it has become so popular.

6. Ed Stetzer – Are Evangelicals More Liberal Than Their Parents? As always, Ed provides expert analysis of what the data tells us. The results may surprise you.

7. Let’s be praying for Turkish Christians who, after the coup attempt, are becoming the targets of Muslim persecution.
