Some great articles to share this week (see below), but first…

Exciting week for us! The first copy of This Is Our Time arrived, hot off the presses. Below is a picture of me and Corina at Marble Slab, where we usually take the family for ice cream on the day a new book arrives. You can also see our three-year-old, who gets a mention at the start of chapter 4. He’s got the book and his looking for his name (the only word he can read!).

Kindle Deal: The Next Story: Faith, Friends, Family, and the Digital World by Tim Challies. $3.99.

Seven of the best articles I came across this week:

1. Jelani Cobb – Prodigy of Hate: Inside the Trial of Dylann Roof. The evil, the heartache, the horror — reported in all its awful detail.

2. Frederick Douglass’ TestimonyRead his story and his crusade against “soul-destroying” religion.

3. Lynn Cohick – “Render Unto Caesar.” Is this the Christian’s call to action or to retreat?

4. Derek Rishmawy – On Signaling vs. Displaying Virtue in a Trumpian Age. Derek gives us plenty of food for thought as we seek to be faithful in this time.

5. D. A. Carson – Subtle Ways to Abandon the Authority of Scripture in Our Lives. #4, #5, and #6 are especially worth noting in these times.

6. Frank Thornsbury – An Imaginative Inheritance: G. K. Chesterton’s Influence on Tolkien and Lewis. Common imagination from Chesterton, cultivated and continued on in Lewis and Tolkien’s work.

7. J. D. Greear – The Preacher and His Family: Leading Your Family in God’s Two Gardens. Excellent counsel in this analogy.
