TrevinSeven1webKindle Deal: Reading the Sermon on the Mount with John Stott. $3.99.

Seven of the best articles I came across this week:

1. Alex Tizon – My Family’s SlaveOne of the most riveting essay / profiles I’ve read in recent months.

2. Molly Worthen – U Can’t Talk to Ur Professor Like This. An article on the need for formality in the academy. No, we’re not all the same.

3. Kevin DeYoung – The Death of Expertise. On a related note, here’s a good review of an important book, and why it matters today. All people are created equal, but not all opinions are on the same plane.

4. Karen Swallow Prior – How to Love Your Ideological Enemy. I love Karen’s idea of hospitable orthodoxy and how it guides a wise and loving response. Still, I believe we need to consider more deeply the apostles’ reaction to heresy. On the one hand, gentle correction sometimes. On the other, significant rebuke.

5. John Kimbell – Consider these 5 things before your church plans a short-term mission trip. I’ve been both short-term and long-term missionary, and I think these suggestions are fantastic.

6. Dave Itzkoff – Jimmy Fallon Was On Top of the World. Then Came Trump. It is sad that our society seems determined to root out any un-politicized, non-polarized pocket of our culture.

7. Timothy George – Retrieval for the Sake of Renewal. Putting the “Center for Baptist Renewal” in historical and theological context.
